The SHORT WAVE “HIKER” 49er

This one valve receiver was an experiment to see how this unique type of circuit would perform as a SWer.
It uses the type 49 valve in the space charge regeneration circuit and is surprisingly very sensitive. Aerial
coupling was very critical until I used a 12pF fixed capacitor in series with the small capacity variable
aerial coupling capacitor. This modification made all the difference and going into regeneration became
quite smooth. Filament voltage is 1.5 from 2 cells in parallel and HT is 9 volts at 500uA.

This is the same 1Q5 Regen receiver I've used before however this year I added my rook coil
Tuggle Antenna Tuning unit from my 2009 passive receiver. The tuning unit provided increased
selectivity and inductive coupling to the receiver.

I run 18 VDC on the plate of the 1q5 tube and control regeneration with a pot across the tickler
coil. I use my 160 meter dipole and a 50' length of wire as the antenna.
